Lucy

October 1, 2001 -

How she got her name: I had a couple of ideas about what I was going to call her. However, she just didn't fit any of them, so I called her "Little Kitty" for the first week. It became Lucy.

Does she know her name?: Yes, she looks at me when I say it. This doesn't mean she comes over or anything.

Coloring: Gray, with one small white star on her neck and some white toes..

How she came to live with me: A friend of mine, Abby, worked at an Emergency Pet Clinic. Lucy was brought in as a stray - she'd been hit in the head by a skateboard. Abby, being the kind-hearted person she is, took her in and went about looking for a home for her. Abby called me.

Why did I take her in?: Ethan needed a playmate. He was terrorizing the older cats, and they just didn't want anything to do with him. Lucy, on the other hand, adored Ethan. Kind of like the big brother, little sister thing.

That was then. Since that initial time, Ethan has terrorized and hurt Lucy so much she wants absolutely nothing(!) to do with him. Whenever he comes anywhere close to her, she hisses and runs off.

Smart Scale Index: About a four. Why? She doesn't seem to be all that smart. Very sweet when she wants to be.

Nickname: Lucy Lu. Sometimes I call her Lulu. Why? I have no idea why - it just kind of evolved that way.

Talks?: Sometimes. Her meow is very grating on the ears. She seems to talk a lot when she can't find me.

Plays well with others: She used to play well with Ethan when the older cats were still alive. The older cats didn't want to play, and they wouldgrowl at her if she tried. Mostly, she likes to play with their tails. But they did let her sleep with them.

Lucy doesn't play with either Ethan or Noelle. In fact, none of them play with each other.

Favorite Food: Pretty much any food.

Favorite Human Food: Cheese. Bacon bits. Popcorn. Potato chips. Whip cream. Chicken....Lucy likes human food.

Affectionate?: Not really. Having said that, she does like sitting on my lap and letting me pet her. And when she is feeling really friendly, she head butts me.

Independent?: No. Follows me around and always has to be in the same room or close by.

Favorite Activities: Getting into stuff. She also likes a very specific type of cat toy. It is a ball with long, shiny strips attached. I call them pom poms.

Tricks: She will get on her hind legs and reach for my finger if I hold it out over her head. Pretty much all my cats know that one.

Wierdest Habit: Doesn't really have one. Yet. Lucy does like to groom me, though. She also likes to excessively groom herself. And she loves it when I comb her. I think if Lucy were a person, she would have lots of mirrors and use them.

Most Annoying Habit: Again, Lucy doesn't really have one of these either.

Most Disgusting Habit: None.

Scared of the Most: Lucy seems a little timid about some things. When my friend, Vicki, watches my cats when I am away, Lucy will not come down the stairs.

Scariest Moment for Me: Ethan has bitten her badly a couple of times now. She gets infected and we go through several months of draining tubes and antibiotics. Some of the medicines don't work for her anymore, which is troublesome. The biting has led Lucy to avoid Ethan as much as possible.

Anything Else: Lucy doesn't jump all that well for a cat. She struggles to jump on things that both Ethan and Noelle have little to no difficulty with. On the flip side, she does very well when she gets a shower or bath. Definitely the easiest of the cats for that particular task.
