"National Monument Tour" - October 7 - 12, 2003In early October, 2003, I undertook my last (planned) camping trip of the year. Earlier in 2003, I had stopped at the Chiricahua National Monument, located in southeast Arizona, and fell in love. I decided that a repeat visit was in order, so I planned this trip to do just that. The trip expanded to include some other sites in the area and to the east (New Mexico) and the north (in the I-40 area):
As you can see, lots of National Monuments (hence the basis for my nickname for the trip, the "National Monument Tour"). The trip was actually supposed to last one more day and include about 3-4 more national monuments, but I didn't feel like camping anymore so I came home early. Also, and I don't mean this as a criticism of the state of Arizona, but I have had enough of Arizona for a while. Just been there, done that, too much too recently. So Arizona and I will be taking a break from one another for a while. However, I am still not done with Chiricahua and there is still plenty of stuff I have not yet seen in Arizona. I will be back. |
