Bryce Canyon National Park - July 8, 2002

I am now sitting in a hotel room in Las Vegas at the Aladdin Resort and Casino. Nice hotel. Paul, the nice guy who registered me, upgraded my room at no additional cost. So, I have a sitting area - still in the same room but in its own distinct area - and a larger bathroom. I really like these hotel bathrooms - this one is very large, with a separate tub and shower. And a separate little room for the toilet.

I have been in here for a while now. Except for the hour or so I spent by the pool and the time I spend at the over-priced dinner buffet. Do not really feel like doing anything, so I am not. But lounge in my little sitting area and write in my journal.

The day started really early, before 5 am mountain time. So I have actually been up an hour longer than what the clock says. I got up to watch the sunrise at the Bryce Ampitheater. From "Upper" Inpiration Point, from where I watched last night's sunset. Don't get to see that many sunrises or sunsets as a general rule. Both were pretty.

After sunrise, I walked down into the canyon from Sunset Point down the Navajo Trail. It meets up with the Queen's Garden Trail (I keep wanting to refer to it as Queen Mary's Garden Trail but I don't think that is correct). It was a nice hike, about 2-2 1/2 miles, and it was my last hike of the trip.

Then I drove the scenic drive and left. Left Bryce Canyon.

From Bryce Canyon, I drove down and thru Zion National Park. I took no pictures - I really wasn't there that long and, to be truthful, Zion is some pretty rock. And I had seen a lot of rock on my trip.

Then onto Las Vegas. On the way I was struck by the fact that, on my scenic drive today, I was at 9100+ feel in elevation. And, then, when driving thru the Virgin River Gorge area in northern Arizona, I was suddenly down to 2100+ feet. It is very strange not to be up some altitude.
