Capitol Reef National Park/Bryce Canyon National Park - July 7, 2002

I arrived at Bryce Canyon a little over an hour ago (it is now about 4:15 pm). A much less hectic day than the past few.

I made one stop on the way here, and that was at Capitol Reef National Park. I think I was only there about an hour and a half. Not much to do at Capitol Reef. I did drive the 20-mile scenic drive (10 miles out, 10 miles back).

Capitol Reef is, basically, several very large rock formations clustered close together. They are pretty spectacular. But, and no offense to Capitol Reef, I have seen a lot of spectacular rock formations in the past week.

So now I sit in the Lodge at Bryce Canyon. Or, more specifically, my room at the Lodge. No more camping or hot dogs. Six straight days of the former and five of the latter are enough for now. (Last night, I had Burger King, no hot dogs. Even super-sized it, or whatever B.K. calls their version of super-sizing.) It will be nice to sleep in an actual bed and eat a decent meal. Reservations for dinner are at 5:45 pm.

Later....

I am in the process of getting ready for bed, but wanted to write down what has happened since I wrote earlier. Dinner was trout and a rice medley. With a salad and roll. No other veggies. Then I walked over to Inspiration Point (really Upper Inspiration Point) along the canyon rim trail. (NOTE: The rim trail is at the edge of the Bryce Ampitheater.) About 1 and 1/2 to 2 mile round trip. I watched the sunset, took lots of pictures, and imagined what the "rocks" looked like. I saw a girl in one, a castle in another. It got kind of fun after a while.

I am planning on getting up early to view the sunrise. And then go on a hike. So, off to bed now.
