Congaree National Park, South Carolina

April 3, 2009

Congaree National Park isn't really all that historical either. What it is is a swamp in the middle of the state of South Carolina, about a 3-hour drive from Charleston. I stopped on my way to Cherokee, North Carolina for a short visit. Because I don't think I will ever be in the neighborhood again and I wanted to see it.

Due to the recent rains, the swamp and the nearby river were overflowing. Near the visitor center at Congaree, there is a wooden walkway on which visitor's can take a 2 mile or so walk through the swamp. Part of the walkway was impassible. I did walk what I could and got all the way out to the river, which was a lovely site. The swamp wasn't all that bad either. The weather was just gorgeous after all the rain in Charleston, sunny, breezy, and not too hot at all.
