Lake Tahoe Trip - May 14-17, 2001
I am not sure exactly why I decided to venture to Lake Tahoe. Not having ever been there certainly had something to do with it. Last year my brother and his wife went there on their honeymoon and gave it very good reviews. And there was that airline ticket special at the American Airlines site. It seemed like all of these were conspiring to convince me I just had to go. So I went. Why not? Tahoe is a very pretty place, as you can see by the picture. Lots of mountains, a lake, some attractive animals, even snow although not in the town anymore. I actually went to South Lake Tahoe, which is the part of Tahoe everyone seems to hear about. After all, that is where the Casinos are. I stayed at Harvey's Resort, a very nice place. Harvey's Rocks the Lake is the saying (probably because that is where the Hard Rock Cafe is located). About one block west of Harvey's is the state line dividing Nevada from California. After I returned from Tahoe, I just raved about Harveys. Particulary the bathroom. I kid you not, my room had one impressive bathroom. Well, three rooms actually. The bathroom "suite", if you will, was on the left as you walked into the hotel room. The room itself was also very nice - an armoir which contained the TV, a huge kingsize bed, and a nice view of the lake. But the bathroom, well, no comparison. You walk into the "main" room, which has the closet (Harvey robe for your use as well as a safe), a vanity and the hairdryer. To your left are two more doors, one to the "toilet" room (that's all it had, along with a phone), and the other to the actual "bathing" room. Separate shower and bathtub (for one, a tub long enough to stretch out your legs and not reach the other end - heaven for somewhat tall people like me); there was another counter at the end of the tub with another sink and a TV. From South Lake Tahoe, I ventured out into the surrounding area. I actually spent one whole day driving down to Bodie, a ghost town east of the Sierra Mountains. Not exactly in the mountains, but at a high enough elevation (almost 8000 feet) that you might well have been. Took me 3 hours to drive there and 3 back. I drove on some very isolated 2-lane roads, and the scenery was well worth the effort. Below are the links to the other pages with more pictures and commentary. Enjoy!
