Yellowstone - August 29 - September 9, 2005

Cathleen at Upper Geyser Basin

Cathleen at the Upper Geyser Basin, Old Faithful, Yellowstone National Park

I call it the "Yellowstone Trip", but I visited much more than just Yellowstone - National and State Parks and Monuments in Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. I got to Yellowstone about midway through the trip, after having spent three days at Glacier National Park way up near the border between Montana and Canada. And Glacier came after a couple of days spent in Utah, Idaho, and southern Montana. I guess my point is this trip was about more than just visiting Yellowstone, although Yellowstone was the biggest and most varied place I did visit.

It was a GOOD trip. Terrific weather - could not have asked for better. No rain at all, although it was a bit cold in the mornings. Sunny and warm during the days. Aside from straining my right leg (and seriously curtailing my hiking and walking plans for the remainder of the trip) somewhere at Glacier and getting sun-poisoning towards the end of the trip (not as bad as it sounds if you catch it early enough), nothing "bad" happened on the trip. Everything pretty much went as expected.

I did discover that distances in Montana are longer than they seem on the map. For whatever reason, it took me 6 hours to get from Sula, Montana up to the western entrance to Glacier National Park. On the map, this is only a distance of less than 200 miles. Go figure.

But I had FUN and relaxed and recharged, which was the point of the trip. But you probably want to see the pictures. Here they are....
