My Travels

California   ||   United States   ||   Americas   ||   Europe   ||   Asia

Slowly but surely I am touring the world. Granted, there is still a lot out there yet to be seen (at least By Me!), and I am slowly working on visiting each and every little place of interest. Of Interest To Me, that is. There are some places (parts of Africa, the Middle East, and South America comes to mind) that I just have no interest in visiting or that, due to current circumstances beyond my control (wars, floods, terrorism), I cannot yet visit. And, quite possibly, never will.

Lately, I have been making the "National Park Tour", as I call it. National Parks, which also encompass just more than parks - there are monuments, preserves, reserves, historical sites, military parks, etc. - contain some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. And most of the "parks" I have chosen to visit have been at altitude (ie, in the mountains) which makes it even better for me - I love the mountains.

But I have also visited close to 20 foreign countries. I find that to be quite astounding - I don't seem to leave the United States that often and yet, apparently I have been more than a few places where I get a stamp in my passport. The last one was Belize - lately, I have been visiting a lot of what are referred to often as Third World Countries. Not only are they less expensive (well, Belize wasn't a good example) but they do have a lot of neat stuff to see and do. In Belize, for instance, all sorts of ruins and outdoor activities exist.

This is true even within the United States. Although, nationally, I seem to be enjoying Mother Nature more than man-made structures of late. However, I do find the Indian Ruins of Mesa Verde and other southwestern sites fascinating. Old Army forts as well. Must be something about the word "ruin" that does it for me.

So, please enjoy my pictures and my narrative - I have been told it can be amusing and/or entertaining. More pictures and stories turn up occasionally so check back now and then. (Reminds me of one of the lines of the "Beverly Hillbillies" television show - "Y'all come back now, ya hear!".
